Black Cake director Natalia Leite chats with Screen Rant about the Hulu show, adapting Charmaine Wilkinson's best-selling novel and ocean-set filming.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Based on the best-selling book by Charmaine Wilkerson, Hulu's new series, Black Cake, will premiere exclusively on the streaming service on Wednesday, November 1. The show follows a young woman named Covey who flees Jamaica after she is suspected of her husband's murder.

Natalia Leite: I got the pilot script when I was shooting The Handmaid's Tale. For a moment, I was like, "I don't know if the timing is going to work out." But I really fell in love with the script, and I ended up jumping from one show to the next pretty quickly. I loved that it's this multi-generational multicultural story, which relates very much to my background. I have a very international upbringing, and my family comes from a lot of different parts.

Eleanor’s narration is what ties the story together. In addition to being on set, were you present for these voice-over recordings?
