A San Antonio police officer is currently serving a 30-day suspension after he allowed a man wanted on a felony DWI warrant to leave a crash scene despite him showing signs of intoxication, discipline records obtained by KSAT Investigates show.

– A San Antonio police officer is currently serving a 30-day suspension after he allowed a man wanted on a felony DWI warrant to leave a crash scene despite him showing signs of intoxication, discipline records obtained byOfficer Nicholas Rosol was initially handed a contemplated 45-day suspension in late August, which was reduced to 30 days after Rosol met with SAPD Chief William McManus.

Despite Esquivel showing apparent signs of intoxication, Rosol N-coded the crash call, meaning he took no police action and allowed Esquivel to leave the scene, the paperwork states.Esquivel was wanted on a felony warrant out of Atascosa County for DWI-3rd offense or more and should have been taken into custody by Rosol, according to the records.

One of the drivers involved in one of the crashes did not have a valid driver’s license or valid insurance and Rosol failed to fill out crash reports for either wreck or an offense report for failure to stop and provide information from the second crash, the paperwork states. Rosol was cited for violating SAPD rules related to being required to take action, alertness required of members, and properly responding to and reporting on crashes, records show.He has worked for SAPD since 2019.Emmy-award winning reporter Dillon Collier joined KSAT Investigates in September 2016.
