Residents woke up to the sound of a fierce "explosion" after a car was deliberately set alight in the early hours on Tuesday, October 24.
Emergency services, including one fire appliance, raced to Selvieland Road, in the Penilee area, just before 1am to find the Volkswagen engulfed in flames. A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I heard a bang and it was very loud. I looked out through the window and saw all the flames.Another resident, whose car was damaged in the incident, added: "My neighbour chapped my door at around 1.30am and told me what was going on. I saw the smoke. My car was parked near it.
"There was an explosion. My car was damaged, it's back light and panel is dented and its at the garage now."A spokesperson said: “Around 1.35am on Tuesday, 24 October, 2023, police were called to a report of a car fire in the Selvieland Road area of Glasgow. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 1.38am on Tuesday, 24 October to reports of a car alight on Selvieland Road, Penilee.“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance to the scene where firefighters extinguished the fire. There were no reported casualties and crews left at 2.10am after ensuring the area had been made safe."
