"I dreamed of being on Coronation Street and pulling pints in the Rovers," Ryan Kay says when asked about how he got into styling. The cobbles are a far cry from how he actually spends his days, but he does spend them with a soap star or two - as the stylist behind the likes of Gemma Atkinson and Lucy Fallon.
Ryan’s plans to become a stylist got more serious when he was accepted into the London College of Fashion. "I was 24, I was a late bloomer going to university," he said but during his time there he had internships with the likes of Julien McDonald and ended up working for a fashion communications and PR firm at London Fashion Week.
He added: "But I’d say this last year, my feet have not touched the ground. It’s been one job after another after another." While working with celebrities and dressing them for events may seem glamorous, it’s not always all it’s cracked up to be. But while he says his celebrity clients are all his 'girls', he admits the job isn't as glamorous as it may seem. "I was dragging two big suitcases, my handbag and a massive rucksack with my steamer, diamonds… I was running around with £200,000 worth of diamonds and designer heels," he said when discussing taking on seven clients for this year’s Pride of Britain.
