Only a small number of Hoops legions made the trip to Edinburgh but they were vocal in support of the Irishman for the first time since his return.

It has seemed that all has been forgiven where Celtic fans and Brendan Rodgers are concerned after an impressive start to his second spell in charge at Parkhead.

It has only taken nine Scottish Premiership games and a reduced ticket allocation of less than 600 can’t be described as a majority of Hoops legions, but they probably sum up the feelings of almost every Celtic punter towards Rodgers. And ironically the Irishman was back at the ground where it all started for him in the league first time around when new signing Scott Sinclair climbed off the bench to give them an opening day win. The rest, quite literally that season, was history.

He said at the time: “I hope I can still have a fabulous relationship with the fanbase. It’s natural that when I left it was a sad moment. I certainly don’t regret it but what I do regret is the hurt it caused people and that’s the very reason I’m sat here today. As a Celtic supporter I understood what it meant. That was my regret – that I hurt people who were Celtic fans and it was a big part of coming back.
