Penfolds was named the best fine wine producer from 120 countries at the 2023 Golden Vines awards at a sumptuous dinner at the gilded Palais Garnier opera house that inspired the Phantom of the Opera ghost story and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical.
Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago who was in Paris to receive the award said the third consecutive win gave the winery “all-star winner” status.“At once humbled, it was a great honour accepting the award in Paris on behalf of the entire Penfolds team – only two months shy of Penfolds 180th-Annivesary.

Penfolds winemaker Matt Woo guided the historic project on the ground in China and ensured the blend stayed true to Penfold’s “house style” as laid down by Gago.The Californian quintet released globally as part of the 2023 collection includes the celebrated “wines of the world” and a new single-vineyard wine.
