“You’re No Longer Britney Spears”: How ‘Crossroads’ Captured the Girl Beyond the Pop Star

That changes October 23 and 25, when Crossroads will return to theaters for a two-day global fan event that coincides with the release of The Woman in Me, Spears’s highly anticipated memoir. The rerelease—which Spears herself has signed off on—is a truly rare chance to see the pop star’s first and only big-screen outing in all its crimped-hair, crop-topped glory. And for director Tamra Davis, it’s also a chance to reclaim the film’s legacy.

So it was just more trying to make sure that Shonda and I were on the same page and everything that happened, she and I had to agree with. Britney really wanted to be part of the ensemble. I think that she wanted to let go of all the power and just be part of this group and really work on that craft. So she didn’t really come on as like, “Well, I see it this way.” This was all new to her, so she was incredibly wonderful and open to direction.
