Law & Order star Joanna Merlin, who was in the original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof, has died aged 92. Her death was announced on the Instagram page for New York University Tisch Graduate Acting Program, where she had been a member of the faculty since 1998. ‘Joanna was an actress, master Chekhov teacher, and former casting director for Harold Prince, Stephen Sondheim, Bernardo Bertolucci, and James Ivory,’ the message read.
Merlin photographed while starring as Miss Berg in Fame in 1980 Merlin starred as Miss Berg in the iconic 1980 movie Fame, while also appearing in releases including Mystic Pizza, The Invasion and Prince of Darkness. On the small screen, she appeared in various shows and TV movies including The Winter’s Tale, Witness Protection, The Good Wife, Homeland and several episodes of Law & Order, before joining Special Victims Unit in her recurring role.
