Alleged pickpocket arrested on organized crime charges at Austin City Limits Music Festival

Victor Manuel Castro Ordonez is charged with Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. after an alleged pickpocket was arrested during weekend two of the event, according to court records.

According to the affidavit, Castro Ordonez had a tote bag wrapped around his body that contained a Faraday bag. Faraday bags are designed to block cellular reception so the phones inside cannot be tracked. Police stated in the affidavit that the bag contained 35 newer-model cell phones valued at up to $45,500.

Upon approaching the group, two individuals fled into the crowd while Ordonez attempted to flee but was detained by the officer.Williams has been coming to ACL since 2017. This is the first time he has had anything but fun stories to share.“I ran into two kind of bigger guys who almost seemed like they were aggressively pushing their way through the crowd. I did not really think anything of it. It is something that happens at music festivals.

Police say how pickpocketing rings typically work is one person steals the phone and passes it to another person who then gives it to a third person who is carrying a Faraday bag.
