Many of the runners and walkers who join the Forever Young Club are new immigrants, and sign up not only to keep fit, but also to meet new friends and work on language skills.

At 73 and 69 years, respectively, John and Joan admit they have a few more aches and pains than they did when they were running marathons in their younger years. However, they say running is not only possible as you grow older, but a great way to stay healthy and socialize with other seniors.

“We focus on five or eight kilometre runs now. It’s a little easier on the body,” said John, lightheartedly. Last Monday, they had 51 members hitting the pavement. After their run/walk they cram into a coffee shop to socialize.Forever Young members may come from all walks of life, but they also have much in common.
