After millions of viewers tuned in to watch Coronation Street villain Stephen Reid finally receive his just desserts at the end of this year’s Super Soap Week, a grisly end at the hands of Peter Barlow seemed to be exactly what the serial killer deserved.
In unexpected scenes, Peter was seen driving his minicab into the killer, at speed, sending Stephen crashing to the floor in a shocking culmination of the nail biting storyline. Viewers will have to tune in to see how the storyline unfolds, but following Friday’s events, Chris Gascoyne, the actor that plays Peter, has been quick to weigh in on what lies ahead and how the storyline will have a lasting impact on his character going forwards.
“They knew that Peter was angry and was looking for Stephen but although he had tried to beat him up at the flat I don’t think anyone saw that last moment coming until it happened.” In scenes due to air in the coming days, fans at home will see Peter taken in for questioning following Stephen’s death, something which Chris revealed initially baffles the cab driver.
“He starts to lose control and a whole internal monologue starts in his head. He starts to think ‘What have I done?’ ‘Was Jenny in danger?’ ‘Could I have done something different?’ ‘ ‘Would it have been better if Stephen had been arrested?’.” “Could you ever rest, could you sleep. He actually says “I have taken another human being out of this world forever, what kind of person does that? What does that make me?” And he is terrified.”
