Sir Michael Caine has announced his retirement from acting at the age of 90. The veteran star has appeared in more than 160 films during a career which spanned seven decades.
He told the BBC Radio 4's Today programme: “I keep saying I’m going to retire. Well I am now.” In The Great Escaper, Sir Michael plays real-life World War Two veteran Bernie Jordan, who escaped from a care home to attend D-Day celebrations in France.READ MORE: Real life of Coronation Street's Peter Barlow actor Chris Gascoyne - Emmerdale star wife, drink battle, co-star bond and soap exit
He added: “The only parts I’m liable to get now are 90-year-old men. Or maybe 85. They’re not going to be the lead. Sir Michael admitted he had previously turned the film down three times as he had already considered himself retired. He stars alongside Glenda Jackson, who died in June after the completion of the film.
