Coinciding with the untimely death of actor Luke Perry, a new Canadian campaign has been launched to help people quickly identify a blood clot before develops into a stroke.
The C-L-O-T-S campaign points out 80% of strokes involve blood clots that block the flow of blood to the brain. A recent survey by Thrombosis Canada found 86% of Canadians are aware blood clots can be fatal, but only one-third are very concerned about them. Sandra Buckberrough, 50, of Whitby — who had two blood clots in seven months with the second DVT in her leg being potentially fatal — can testify to the need for immediately seeking medical attention. The first clot was superficial, but the second put her at a high risk of having a stroke.
