A huge restoration project was nearing completion when, in June 2018, a second fire broke out and the Mackintosh building was completely destroyed.
The 2014 fire was caused after flammable gases from a foam canister used in a student project were ignited accidentally. An investigation is still taking place by the Scottish fire and rescue service into the cause of the 2018 blaze. In further criticism of the GSA management, Holyrood's culture committee concluded there was a"lack of transparency" regarding what specific measures were taken as a result of the reviews following the first fire.Convener of the committee, Joan McAlpine MSP, said a public inquiry was needed because of the"seriousness of the loss caused by these two fires".
A spokesperson said:"As a nation we are rightly proud of being able to provide unique places of learning, whose history continues to inspire generations of students."There are always lessons that can be learned and we are happy to take forward the most appropriate and helpful as we bring this much-loved building back to life."The GSA said there were some"factual inaccuracies" in the report.
It added:"The Mackintosh Building is a national treasure but it is not lost and it will certainly return."
seems pretty clear that someone wants this building gone.
