According to the CFD, the artwork must incorporate the 2023 National Fire Prevention Week Theme "Cooking Safety Starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention".Artwork must be submitted no later than 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 20. Hardcopy submissions must be on not less than 8 1/2" x 11" paper or larger. They also must be hand drawn, in color or black and white, and made with crayon, pencil, chalk, pen, ink or painted, according to the CFD.
Fire personnel say hardcopy submissions must include the following information on the back of the drawing: students first and last name, grade, age, school, as well as their parents name, address, and phone number. A $50 gift card will be awarded to the first-place winner in each division , according to the CFD. One overall winner will be selected from the division winners and will be invited to a family dinner at a CFD fire station.Judging per division will be conducted by members of the fire department and all decisions are final, according to the CFD.
Only one entry per student will be accepted, according to the CFD. Posters will not be returned unless prior arrangements have been made with parents or teachers. Artwork may be displayed by the CFD on social media or events. Submissions may be mailed or dropped off to the CFD headquarters at 1451 King St. Extension in Charleston on Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
