Glasgow School of Art has been criticised by MSPs in a report into the fire which devastated the Mackintosh Building last year.
The committee was particularly concerned about the length of time taken for a modern mist suppression system to be installed. Such a system was still not in place when the second fire broke out.Committee convener Joan McAlpine said:"The board of Glasgow School of Art were custodians of this magnificent building, one of the most significant to Scotland's rich cultural heritage.
However, bosses at the art school have said they are confident the Mackintosh Building will be rebuilt. The Scottish Government, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and HES should undertake a review of Category A listed buildings with unique cultural or historic significance to ascertain if any additional interventions might be introduced to mitigate the risk of fire.
School's management clearly not fit to have custody of a concrete paving stone let alone a priceless piece of architecture. But in Britain it is the norm for colleges and universities to be run by philistines.
Don't write off a new build might be time to accept defeat on the old and go for something modern thats more resistant to fire.
