Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT New details about The Office reboot clarify the status and timeline of the reportedly planned show. The beloved sitcom, which initially aired on NBC between March 24, 2005, and May 16, 2013, starred a brilliant ensemble cast of Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B. J. Novak, Mindy Kaling, and Craig Robinson, among others.

Now, in his latest Puck newsletter, journalist Matt Belloni, who broke the initial story, adds a few clarifying details. He explains that a development deal with Daniels to explore avenues to return to The Office's mockumentary format was being discussed before the WGA strike began, and will soon close now that the strike has ended.

More on that Office reboot: The Internet went a little nuts over my mention on Sunday that showrunner Greg Daniels is doing a new version of The Office. My favorite is the outrage that NBC would dare remake the 2005-2013 show, which was itself a remake of the U.K. original. Whatever, this is a development deal, people! Right before the strike, Daniels was closing a pact to return to the format and see if he can come up with something worth making.

A Reboot Of The Office Has Been Talked About For Years Other than the above reporting, there’s been little to no other update on the new revival. However, there have been plenty of teases at what to expect from a return to the dysfunctional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.

Not all the actors, however, are fully on board with a potential reboot. Brian Baumgartner, who played Kevin, has expressed confusion at the idea. In an interview a few months back he said: “People who are asking for a reboot is always confusing to me. Because what are we rebooting?” Novak, who was also a writer of the show, has previously expressed his worry that a reboot would be developed for the wrong reasons, and thus be creatively compromised.
