These Pixar films broke a long-standing tradition.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Not only is Pixar known for crafting memorable stories but also for their creative use of Easter eggs that tie all of them together, however, the long-standing John Ratzenberger cameo tradition has been noticeably missing from several recent movies. Pixar films have the exceptional ability to touch viewers' hearts with their stunning animation and their raw portrayal of human emotion.

Since there was never any official confirmation from anyone at Pixar, there is no way to say exactly who Ratzenberger plays in the movie. There is widespread speculation as to who it could be. At this point, many viewers believe that Ratzenberger's character in Soulis an annoyed New York subway passenger that Joe bumps into.

Many other Pixar Easter egg traditions were present in the film, though, like the Pixar Luxo ball, the Pixar Planet truck, and A113. It also seemed that Luca might serve as the first movie to begin a new tradition. Peter Sohn voiced a character in the movie, and Enrico Casarosa joked that he wanted to start a new tradition of putting Sohn in every Pixar film from now on. He was not present in Turning Red, though, so this tradition did not seem to take off.

2 Lightyear Ratzenberger was notably absent from 2022's spinoff of the Toy Story franchise, Lightyear. Neither his voice nor his physical appearance were present anywhere within the film. With this being the fourth movie that the tradition was broken with, it seems that it has been officially done away with. And, while the other films seemed to do just fine without Ratzenberger, the studio's "good-luck charm", Lightyear struggled at the box office.
