LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Lucena West 1 Elementary School here won seven medals in the junior category of the recent Asian Music Games 2023, a national and international marching band competition in Jember, Indonesia.
The drum and lyre team snatched four group awards – Champion, Concert Percussion; third place, Best in Music; third place, Best in Visual Effect, and third place, drumline. Team Lucena West 1 Philippines and Lucena West 1 Drum and Lyre Corps bandmaster Alfred Orbe said that the drum and lyre corps originated in the Philippines as an economical alternative to regular brass bands or a drum and bugle corps.
