Dieters think the injections could be a simple way to lose weight - but experts disagree

A nutritionist has issued a warning over skinny jabs following a TV documentary shown on Channel 4 this week. Anna Richardson fronted Channel 4’s ‘The Truth About The ‘Skinny Jab’’ documentary, and said: "People are really putting themselves at risk buying things [when] they have no idea what it is’.

Anna was referring to the rising black market of weight loss injections stemming from a lack of regulation. Now Nutritionist for The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan, Mark Gilbert is reminding would-be weight loss injection takers of the realities of taking the so-called ‘skinny jab’. Mark said the jabs are not an adequate substitute for getting the required amount of nutrients for proper bodily function. He added: "Slimming jabs are usually used by people who are already deficient in one or more nutrients, causing them to eat very few calories and thus making it difficult to attain adequate nutritional status."

And Mark said the jabs are proven to be largely unsuccessful in practice, a fact supported by Anna in the documentary, who noted that they are mostly ‘no better than a yo-yo diet’. Mark said: "Two-thirds of weight loss is regained within a year of stopping these drugs. Additionally, almost 40% of weight loss is lean tissue rather than fat loss.
