Glastonbury Festival bans single-use plastic bottle sales

Single-use plastic bottles are to be banned from sale at Glastonbury.

An announcement on the festival's website said the containers would not be supplied backstage, nor to catering or production staff.Organiser Emily Eavis encouraged ticket-holders to bring reusable bottles and said"hundreds of free water taps" would be available.Ms Eavis said it was"paramount for our planet" to reduce plastic consumption.

"I'm thrilled that, together, we'll be able to prevent over a million single-use plastic bottles from being used at this year's festival."The festival, held in Pilton, Somerset, since 1970, had a"fallow year" in 2018 to allow the ground to recover.

Big news from GlastoFest.., but banning plastic products doesn't solve anything. It's a joined-up approach to plasticpollution that's needed.

Would be better banning cans of beer and lager AND packages of pills ?

Look at the carnage after the festival in terms of rubbish. Same as Bristol, a city who says it has a green environmentally friendly culture/ fair trade etc etc. and shouts that from the rooftops, but walk around for a bit & it is more like a rubbish dump strewn with plastic

Brilliant news. Buy single use bottles and benefit Frankwater a local charity that stopped selling plastic bottle nearly two years ago

Make returnables great again even at Mc crap donalds😉

“Single use plastic bottles.” Because, as we all know, it is simply not possible to reuse a plastic bottle. So I guess we go back to glass bottles and public health and safety be damned, right?

Whilst jetting in bands and artists from all over the world in fuel spewing planes... pointlessgesture

Good it’s a start

In the old days of festivals they were dual use. Once to drink out of and twice to piss into and hurl at Meat Loaf! Kids today do t know they’re born.

First I assume glass gets banned as it can be dangerous and cut people, plastic get banned as it is harmful for the environment, tin cans will probably be banned because everyone making shanks out of them because some dude eyed anothers girl.. From now on you drink from the tap.

So just a 100,000 tents, glass bottles and general litter left to pick up afterwards

It only says that they wont be supplied backstage, no mention of all the suppliers to the audience at the festival! am i missing something? plasticpilchard

I thought all bottles were dual use ? In one end ---- out the other...

C'mon, most people 'refill' the bottles themselves after drinking.

What about single use tents

Can't wait until glasto time on the TV
