Jennifer Aniston’s Alex wants a seat at the table.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Morning Show's director explains why Alex is right in believing Jon Hamm's character is bad for UBA. As the flagship show of Apple TV+, which helped to launch the service in 2019, The Morning Show has managed to bring in some very recognizable actors in order to give life to the heightened drama that fuels the show's fictional UBA network.

In an interview with Deadline, director and executive producer Mimi Leder discussed why Alex is right to be suspicious of Paul when he first joins The Morning Show season 3's cast of characters. A secret arrangement between him and Cory reveals that the tech billionaire eventually wants to own UBA. In the quote below, Leder sheds light on Alex's conflicted mindset:

“She doesn’t trust Cory to change UBA for the better. She thinks of him as purely machiavellian, and I think she’s right. She wants a seat at the table, but getting that seat might cost her more than she ever imagined when Paul Marks walks into the room. So I would say there’s this real power triangle between Cory, Paul and Alex in that part of Alex’s arc. That’s the beginning of her arc, but it’s her finding her voice and finding her power.

Jon Hamm’s Character Could Be Setting Up The Morning Show Endgame The Morning Show is confirmed to return for season 4, though it could be the last. It is rare for a streaming show, especially one that is considered prestige, with expensive set design and a starry cast, to go for an extended run. If the does end with its fourth outing, Hamm as Paul Marks could be a key factor in how the story unfolds.

So much of the delight in The Morning Show comes from the characters squabbling and speaking in grandiose terms about an American morning news show. Though that type of programming still has a consistent audience, the format is fading outside of major events that can drive viewership. The Apple TV+ drama has leaned into this over the last two seasons, with Cory referring to himself as "Jesus" in the season 3 premiere.
