Caesars admitted that the hackers breached its systems through a “social engineering attack.”

Caesars Entertainment reportedly paid roughly $15 million in an attempt to placate hackers who threatened to leak the sensitive customer data stolen during a summer cyberattack.

“We have taken steps to ensure that the stolen data is deleted by the unauthorized actor, although we cannot guarantee this result,” Caesars said in the filing. “We are monitoring the web and have not seen any evidence that the data has been further shared, published, or otherwise misused.”Caesars said hackers executed a social engineering attack.
