Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Taika Waititi has provided an update on the status of his Star Wars movie - but unfortunately it's not a promising one. Waititi has lent his talents to the Star Wars galaxy before, as both a director and an actor in The Mandalorian. He voices IG-11, Din Djarin's reluctant bounty-hunter-turned-nurse-droid ally, and he directed The Mandalorian season 1 finale.
While honoring Shawn Levy at the TIFF Tribute Awards, Waititi jokes about their Star Wars movies. Variety has shared a clip of Waititi's speech, during which he mentions Levy's Star Wars movie and says, "unlike me, let's hope he manages to finish a script for that." This is the first update Waititi has shared in a long time, following the announcement of him earning his own Star Wars movie. Given the success of not only his episode of The Mandalorian, but also his other films such as Thor: Ragnorak, this update is rather disappointing. Will Taika Waititi's Star Wars Movie Happen? There have been many Star Wars movie ideas that have dissolved throughout the years, and unfortunately, it seems that Waititi's might do the same.
While this is disappointing, there are also plenty of Star Wars movies that are confirmed to be coming in the near future. Dave Filoni will be leading a movie set in The Mandalorian era, one that's been liked to an Avengers-esque team-up of characters such as Din Djarin, Ahsoka Tano, and Bo-Katan Kryze. Meanwhile, James Mangold is taking the lead on a movie set 25,000 before the Skywalker saga, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is bringing Rey's new Jedi Order to the big screen.
