Beetlejuice 2 was almost there.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The SAG-AFTRA strike halted the production of Beetlejuice 2 just before the production could finish filming. A sequel nearly 40 years in the making, Beetlejuice 2 was confirmed to be in development this year after being long-rumored. The sequel will be directed by original Beetlejuice director Tim Burton, and will star Michael Keaton, Willem Dafoe, Winona Ryder, Monica Bellucci, Catherine O’Hara, and Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega.

“I feel grateful we got what we got. Literally, it was a day and a half. We know what we have to do. It is 99 per cent done.” The Strikes Are A Logistical Nightmare For Beetlejuice 2 The SAG-AFTRA strike has proven difficult for the production of Beetlejuice 2. While they are far from the only production delayed due to the onset of the WGA strike, SAG-AFTRA strike, or both, being cut off so close to the end of production surely interrupts the rhythm of the production. Beetlejuice 2 will luckily have the majority of its content done when the strikes lift, but it is nonetheless frustrating for the production team.

Beetlejuice 2 had been scheduled for release in September 2024, but with the strikes still going strong, that timeline may be more up in the air. Posing a particular challenge is the fact that countless other film and TV productions have been put on pause due to the ongoing strikes. So, when both strikes lift, the floodgates will be opened, as many productions scramble to finish out their filming, continue writing, or kickoff production.

Beetlejuice 2 may face a particular challenge given its concurrent development with Wednesday season 2. Both Ortega and Burton are involved in key capacities in Wednesday and Beetlejuice 2, so aligning those schedules could be a major logistical barrier once the strikes lift. Given Wednesday’s Netflix popularity, it is possible that the show could take precedence over wrapping Beetlejuice 2.
