The Jo Show: The RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta on her dreams of interviewing Dolly Parton on air, broadcasting country music in Irish and her memories of listening to cassette tapes

I trained everywhere and I moved from the newsroom to the programme department. I always had a keen interest in music and I wanted to present a show dedicated to trad, classical or country. I began working on a nighttime 9-11pm slot and I noticed that 90 percent of the texts and emails wanted to hear country music. I spoke to our boss and after some deliberation I started my own country music show about 15 years ago.

I asked them to send me a snippet of a voiceover congratulating the station. Even though they didn’t speak Irish, they were happy to do it. I don’t do any English interviews and a lot of the stars don’t have enough Irish to come on the show. But I’ve interviewed Foster and Allen, Mick Flavin, John Hogan and Johnny Brady for Hot Country TV. I grew up listening to them and I remember my parents bringing me to see Mick Flavin and John Hogan when I was seven or eight.
