Like most of the country, we've been hit by a welcome late summer heatwave here in Lancashire. It's just the tonic after a disappointingly soggy season so far.
We were among thousands to attend the big switch-on event at Tower Festival headline last week, with pop siren Sophie Ellis Bextor given the honour of flicking the big switch. And you can check out all the images and coverage from that, here This year's festival will include an 'alien invasion' of Blackpool Tower, light projection shows, huge technicolour tableaux and the return of Odyssey sea monster on the Comedy carpet.Tickets: This is a free event
The festival runs from 6pm to 9.30pm each night. Please note there is a 20-minute walk from the car park to the event site.Light Up Lancaster, November 2 to 4 There may not be a blockbuster fireworks display to close the vent this year, but it still promises to stun the masses on the streets of Lancaster for an extended three days.
West End Winter Lantern Festival, December 2 We're deep into winter now and to lift the chill the annual lantern parade will head through the West End of Morecambe in December. The procession is expected to be bigger than ever and will see musicians and the community lanterns, which are made at workshops in the weeks leading up to the event.
Blackburn Festival of Light, December date to be confirmed This community-led event has lantern making workshops at its core. Then people's creations will be part of a window trail, performances and more throughout the town centre.
