'The media covers the case breathlessly.' No - LAT's, this is not the same. As with the Covington HS kids, while our nat'l media did cover this story breathlessly, they did it with the intent of using it [falsely] in order to damage others politically.
i actually heard this story from a religious institution and i am glad you are making the comparison with Smolett...the irony of it all is how those that are to protect you don't always believe your story regardless of the evidence...

Chicago police had arrested, then released the two Nigerian brothers without charges late Friday and said they were no longer suspects in the attack. It’s ok to be white But he did though. He hired a defense attorney. That's what you do when you messed up as bad as he did. If he did fake it, throw the book at him. So many victims are negatively affected by bad actors making false claims.
