, the latest film from Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, set to play in the main section at Telluride.
The pic follows Rose Dugdale, an English heiress born into the very definition of the landed gentry. Always free-spirited, in an act of rebellion when she’s 18, Rose rejects family pressure to marry and instead goes to university to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics. Her experience studying at Oxford, coupled with the febrile atmosphere of the 1960s, laid down the beginnings of her radicalization and led to her eventual involvement in the IRA’s armed struggle. This involvement inexorably brought Rose Dugdale and three armed comrades to Russborough House on 26 April 1974. There, they carry out a violent raid in which nineteen masterpieces are stolen, including Vermeer’s Woman Writing a Letter, with her Maid.
As each day unfolds, the synopsis reads, Rose can feel the noose further tightening around her. Added into the mix is Rose’s struggle with the fact that she is pregnant. The film tries to piece together how a wealthy heiress has ended up hiding out in the wilds of West Cork with a gun and a stash of stolen masterpieces. Will the ransom demands be met or will time finally run out for Rose?was shot on location in Dublin and Wicklow in the winter of 2022.
