All traces of Ryan Tubridy are set to be wiped from RTE from today – and the station is already in talks to hire a new presenter to his radio show.
Mr Bakhurst told Morning Ireland: “I've already started discussions with the head of Radio One and the acting head of content about that. Oliver Callan and Brendan Courtney have been doing a really good job in that slot, we have people who the audience have already responded warmly to. He said: “It’s all a big shock. I haven’t decided what to do yet, but when I know I’ll let you know.”And Ray D’Arcy previously admitted he misses the 9AM radio slot, saying it is the “jewel in the crown” in any radio schedule.
“I do very much miss 9 o’clock. It is the jewel in the crown of any radio schedule,” he told Jenny and Mairead Now podcast two weeks ago.In July, RTE’s Director General Kevin Bakhurst said that RTE will be asked Tubridy to pay back the outstanding €150,000 Renault events. “Part of the arrangement [for Ryan] to return was that he had agreed he would pay the €150,000 if he returned to us,” he said.Mr Tubridy issued a statement on Wednesday highlighting the fact the most recent report by Grant Thornton had found no wrongdoing on his part or his agent, Noel Kelly.
