More than 4,000 people attended last year's End of Summer Bash in Elgin's downtown Festival Park. The event returns Saturday, with live music and other activities planned for 5 to 8 p.m. and a lighted drone show serving as the evening's finale.
Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players are the opening act at the Bash, set for 5 to 8 p.m. in downton Festival Park. Latin Grammy and Emmy award-winning Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band take the stage next, followed by the light show.
End of Summer Bash made its debut in August 2022 after the city canceled its Fourth of July evening entertainment and fireworks show in the wake of the mass shooting that occurred in Highland Park earlier that day. The postponed event was renamed and was such a success that the city decided it should return in 2023.
“We’ve never done an end of summer show but have been doing drone shows for two years now,” James said. “We originated out of a company with 34 years of fireworks’ experience that’s been doing the Elgin Fourth of July fireworks for 11 years.“Viewers can expect some cool transforming/changing geometries and light effects and designs chosen to highlight the uniqueness that is summer in Elgin and just Elgin in general. The show will be flown to music that ties into the designs.
The fireworks show that was the finale to the 2022 End of Summer Bash in downtown Elgin's Festival Park will be replaced this year by a lighted drone show.
