From Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Jonas Brothers.So how did you go from the big idea of “five albums, one night” to a functional stadium or arena show? What was that process like?The stadium shows are slightly different than the arena shows, just based on the logistics of the building and everything else.
I know it’s a risk to fit in so much older stuff in a setlist, but at the same time, I think the music still feels fresh! Because pop punk is popular again, it’s what so many people sound like in 2023. How on earth did you know all the way back in 2007?] But really, we always were influenced by a lot of classic bands, the classic pop and rock bands. Then there was also a weird balance with boy bands and all the emo, pop-punk stuff that was going on.
Our fans were our peers, and they are now as well, so we look out and see parents bringing their kids, when that parent was 15 or 16 when they first became a fan. Andparents are coming with them, because they still want to come to the show with their kid. It’s a really amazing generational effect. I’m glad that the records hold up! Like anybody looking back on a photo album or a journal, there are some things with an element of cringe. But we’re so proud of what got us where we are today.
So how does it feel to be right at the edge of a year of heavy touring? I know you’ve never played in Australia before. Are you looking forward to playing the song “Australia” in Australia?Kevin: Playing “Australia” now, again, in the new way we’re doing it, is one of my favorite moments in the show.It’s going to be amazing to go to Europe in the summertime next year! To already have that planned alleviates stress around getting my summer plans together. So that’ll be great. There are a few other parts of the world that we want to include on the world tour. But I also think if you look too far into the future with a tour as long as this one is, it can be a little overwhelming.
