As of Sunday, Sound of Freedom has grossed $172,813,772 at the domestic box office, putting it just ahead of the $172,624,353 domestic total made so far by Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The movie, distributed by Angel Studios, has been the biggest surprise at the domestic box office this year, surpassing other films such as Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, Elemental, and The Flash, according to a report.
Sound of Freedom is about the story of how former Homeland Security agent Tim Ballard quit his DHS job to journey into the jungles of Colombia in an effort to save children from sex slavery. Ballard is portrayed in the film by Jim Caviezel, best known for playing Jesus in 2004's The Passion of the Christ.
On July 19, the film was screened by former President Donald Trump at his golf course in New Jersey. Trump praised the film as being an “inspiration.” “It’s something that I’m not sure you’re supposed to enjoy or learn. It’s a combination," said Trump."That was a great movie. And now I understand why it is doing so well. It’s an incredible inspiration.”The film has yet to be released outside of North America but will begin its international rollout this Friday, when it will play in South Africa. The film will then release in Australia and New Zealand on Aug.
“Child trafficking is a global issue, and we hope to build on the incredible momentum here in the states and share the film’s powerful message worldwide,” said Jared Geesey, senior vice president of global distribution for Angel Studios.
