It didn’t start very well and the finish was disheartening, but there was enough in Canada’s first exhibition game leading to the FIBA World Cup to instil a measure of confidence about what’s to come.
An 86-81 loss to Germany in Berlin was tough to swallow given how Canada had fought back from a game-long deficit to pull into a tie with about a minute left. A three-pointer by Germany’s Franz Wagner and an offensive rebound and putback basket by Raptors point guard Dennis Schröder snapped a 79-79 tie in the final minute to lift Germany to the win.
