Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Though several DC movie castings have led to great movies, others never got the time to fully work out. Director Zack Snyder started the DCEU with Man of Steel in 2013. While DC has released multiple crowd-pleasers since the start of the DCEU, such as Wonder Woman and Aquaman, the studio has seen a number of controversial releases that have underperformed both at the box office and with critics.
9 J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon J.K. Simmons became famous in the superhero genre for becoming one with Spider-Man character J. Jonah Jameson. The actor then made the jump to DC, playing another iconic comic book character, Gotham's own Commissioner Jim Gordon. Due to behind-the-scenes issues at DC, Simmons only had a tiny theatrical role as Gordon for the studio, making a cameo in 2017's Justice League.
6 Jared Leto as The Joker Jared Leto's Joker is among the great DC characters failed by the DCEU. In a universe filled with controversial choices, the Joker stands as one of the most criticized. Leto's Joker design was deemed too edgy, with the face tattoos and grills seen as unnecessary and distracting. The actor also had to follow Heath Ledger's turn as the villain in The Dark Knight, an almost impossible task.
