Anita rose to fame in the 1970s, appearing in many British TV series’ including The Spoils Of War and The History Of Mr Polly.in 1978, playing Brenda Summers, a victim of domestic abuse who was befriended by Emily Bishop, appearing in four episodes.soap in 1996, playing the role of Joyce Smedley, mum to established cobbles resident Judy Mallett.
Anita had previously played the role of Brendan Summers two decades earlier, appearing in four episodes in 1978 Anita, meanwhile, would go on to land what became one of her biggest roles the following decade when she joined the cast of Doctors in 2007, just two years after having guested on the daytime soap for a single episode.
This time, she portrayed Mill receptionist Vivien March, who became one of the show’s most recognisable characters. Vivien was at the centre of a huge rape storyline which received critical acclaim, with Anita picking up the award for Best Female Dramatic Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2009.The star also appeared in Heartbeat, playing two different roles, as well as Casualty, Where The Heart Is and Midsomer Murders.
