Dallas and Fort Worth city leaders want to hear from the people as they start working on budgets

for the upcoming year.

In Dallas, budget town halls start next week where people are encouraged to show up and talk with city leaders about how they want their tax dollars spent. While many people are calling for tax cuts they also say they want safe neighborhoods, affordable housing, and better roads, and all that costs money.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is among those calling for a tax cut but says his other priorities for the city are public safety and the best park system in the state. The first Dallas budget Town Hall is set for August 10th. The city council plans a final vote on a new budget September 20th. In Fort Worth budget talks get underway this month as well, the first one is August 16th at City Hall where people can ask City Manager David Cooke questions about city spending.Image: Parradee Kietsirikul/GettyImages
