Scottish actor Matthew Mooney tackles the Bard for Theatre Calgary's Shakespeare On the Go yyc yycarts

This version of Shakespeare’s classic comedy has been adapted by Anna Cummer, who says she was given very strict guidelines.

“We use magic tricks, juggling, lots of slapstick, and original music courtesy of Joy Robinson which means we sing quite a bit of the verse. The actors play as many as three different characters each which means an actor will leave one scene, rush behind the audience changing costumes pieces as well as character and re enter at the opposite side of the stage. Part of the fun for the audience is waiting to see if the actor can make it on cue. Sometimes they do, but sometimes they don’t.

He is using his formidable Scottish brogue for Bottom, but says his Lysander “is a poet and a lover so he’s got more of a London accent, and, for Moth who sings, I’m doing a kind of Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees falsetto.”
