Rosie herself said she wouldn’t use the title on the show, but that it ‘includes a shocking ableist slur and unfortunately that slur has been used against me pretty much every week for my entire life,’ and that it has ‘upset a lot of people from within the disabled community’.Defending it, she argued: ‘In my opinion the ableist slurs… are not taken as seriously as other forms of abuse,’ explaining she ‘still hears the R-word used in pubs and on streets’.
‘So by using that word in the title I really wanted to start the conversation around ableism and abuse.’ The star recently spoke to Metro.co.uk where she opened up on how she was treated by other people because of having cerebral palsy, explaining: ‘I will open up Twitter and see people abuse me everyday, I will walk down the street and have people shout ableist slurs at me, I will order an Uber and the driver will see me and assume I’m drunk and drive away, and these were always daily minute forms of ableism that ended up swallowing how I felt about myself.
‘So it came to a point that I thought I don’t want to be quiet and I don’t want to swallow all of this hate and abuse because I swallow enough disability hate that then becomes self-hate and that will affect my own mental health.’
