Writing, for sure. But directing? Not me, personally. I would never say never, but I feel like that's a process and you have to go through the training and the education. So if I was serious about it, I'd have to make time to actually train and to find whatever my creative niche is, if there is anything at all. But writing, for sure. Writing is where a lot of this starts.
You said the industry has a vision of who people are and then the performers have a vision of what they can do. Do you think Hollywood knows what to do with you? I don't know. I don't consider it anymore. I just kind of pour more into my team, pour more into myself. I think it's pretty arrogant to think that everybody will [see your potential], but sometimes it's harmless. It's just kind of like, "Oh, we saw you do." It’s my responsibility at this stage to put in that work, to show different sides and then hopefully that inspires people.? Like they saw Finn and said, “Cast him as Finn in everything?”, you think Thor.
If they do call you back to be characters on lunch boxes, whether it's a superhero or whatever, at least they have in mind that this is an actor that does. He searches for the roles that are significantly different. So if we're going to give him a superhero role or whatever it is, we're going to make that superhero unique. We just don't want it to be “cool John Boyega” with squinty eyes and nice eyebrows.
