Stephanie Davis was so obsessed with starring on Coronation Street that, when she was just 13 years old, she wrote a poem about appearing on the cobbles. So the actress is thrilled to have now landed her dream role after a three-year hiatus from acting.
“I couldn’t wait to hear the words, ‘Rolling and… action!’” says Stephanie. “I took a little video of myself when I heard it – I could have cried, I was so happy. It’s a dream come true. I was speaking to my mum the other day and she reminded me that when I was about 13, I wrote a poem that said, ‘One day I will be on the cobbles of Coronation Street. ’ She put it in a bedside drawer and got it out the other day. She said it’s amazing that it was one of my dreams, and now I’m doing it.
“I’ve had an amazing few years being with Caben 24/7,” says Stephanie. “Those young years go so fast, so I wanted to spend time with him. It’s a bit weird not being with Caben throughout the day now, because I’ve been with him constantly. But I’m made up to be getting back to doing what I love.” Stephanie took to Instagram in May to reveal her arrival on the cobbles, and will soon make her first appearance on screen. She tells us her former co-stars got in touch to congratulate her on the new role.
“I’ve had so many DMs,” she says. “Because Claire Sweeney [Cassandra Plummer] has joined too, and because she’s Scouse and I’m Scouse, they go, ‘We know what it is, you’re going in as her daughter.’ They’re trying to put the dots together. Who knows? We’ll have to wait and see! “Courtney’s a bit of an onion,” says Stephanie. “She’s got lots of layers to her. She’s very sassy and has a lot of confidence. You can tell she’s not had a great life, and she’s met Darren, who’s obviously got loads of money, but there’s no love there. Darren’s cheated on her multiple times and that’s affected her self-worth and confidence.
