The ongoing court case of Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State was stalled on Monday, July 3 due to the absence of the trial judge. SaharaReporters had reported Kuti’s trial at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court was adjourned to July 3. It had also been reported that there was a mild drama at the last court sitting as the Nigerian police’s effort to charge musician Seun Kuti afresh for assault was blocked by human rights attorney, Femi Falana (SAN).

Kuti, on May 15, turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, accompanied by his lawyers and family members.On May 16, he was arraigned before Adeola Olatunbosun of a Magistrate’s Court in the Yaba area of Lagos State on charges of assaulting a police officer, an action which violated Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act.
