Court Orders Nigerian Custom Service To Release Saro-Wiwa Memorial Bus Seized From Ogoni Groups As House Of Representatives Wades InThe Federal High Court in Lagos State has ordered the Nigerian Customs Service to release the Ken Saro-Wiwa memorial bus allegedly impounded from Ogoni Solidarity Forum.
The Plaintiffs subscribed the following questions for determination, namely; one, Whether the continued detention, seizure and/or withholding of the non-motorized Art Bus belonging to the Ogoni people as against the express recommendation/directive of the committee of the Federal House of Representatives to release same to its owner is not improper, illegal, unlawful, unjustified and abuse of office by the Defendants.
“Upon determination of the above questions, the Plaintiffs sought the following reliefs: one, a DECLARATION that the continued detention, seizure and/or withholding of the non-motorized Art Bus donated to the Ogoni People by the London based organization, PLATFORMis improper, illegal, unlawful, unjustifiable, unwarranted, oppressive, an abuse of office and a deliberate attempt by the Defendants to strangulate the Ogoni struggle for social justice and a right to a clean, safe and healthy...
“AN ORDER of this Honourable Court directing the Defendants to without further delay release and handover the non-motorized Art bus which is in their custody to the Ogoni people unconditionally and devoid of any administrative difficulties whatsoever.”He said, “Coming from the foregoing, I hold the view that the questions in the originating summons are worthy of being answered.
