Simon, 44, who was once billed as ‘London Fashion Week’s real style star’, has now carved out his own showbiz career, with two films in the pipeline., London-based Simon - who also owns his own private security company, Askari Secure Ltd - revealed what life as a celebrity bodyguard is really like - from his biggest concern when trying to keep his world-famous clients safe to his favourite celebrity to work with.
Asked what his biggest concern is when looking after A-listers, Simon explained that it’s all about making sure his clients don’t get ‘swamped’ by fans, which quite frankly sounds terrifying. Speaking about the sorts of factors that come into play when getting a celebrity from A to B, Simon shared: ‘You’re looking at things like timing, how long it takes to get somewhere, what routes we can go, how we get in and out of a venue – which changes depending on whether someone wants to be seen or not.
What’s the most intense client situation he’s found himself in? ‘Looking after Michael Jackson,’ he replied without pause. ‘It wasn’t any sort of immediate danger, but because of the sheer volume of fans all the time it was chaos. Every time we moved him around it was all very hands-on.’Given how hectic celebrity outings can be, we were keen to hear if there were certain questions Simon asks his clients before they head out in public.‘Quite often we sneak inside, but if there are loads of people outside, we might try and appease a few fans, then go back inside and sneak out a different way.
