I wonder if this could have any correlation to the increase of food banks, and austerity in this country. Hmmm let’s think 🤔
Austerity ? UC ? People aren’t nicking fruit and veg ! They are stealing to fund drug habits, get real people !
No Deterrent that’s why, Simple
Nothing to do with Tories. Most stolen items end up in local pubs within minutes. People then don’t go and buy food with any proceeds. It’s all drugs related and commenting on needing to buy food is simply naive
Lack of police presence in the town centres plays a big factor .
I'm surprised , no one has blamed brexit
Well if prices go out of the reach of many people, what would you expect them to do
Immigration has risen too. Coincidence?
If caught take a photo and share with other stores, put photographs in the foyer naming and shaming, stores should Always pursue for a criminal conviction it's a crime against everyone else as prices rise.
Since we now take our own plastic bags to the shop, must be very easy for shoplifters to get away with it.
Another direct affect of the hammering of the poor under Govt austerity measures.
Tories
All thanks to Tory cuts.
Of course. The Police will take no action for shoplifters if they have not stolen enough to warrant their time. Can you blame them? Our politicians have weaken our police so much, they are not functioning to protect the public and business.
Is not just shoplifting, the aggressive behaviour and violence as well is on rise towards retail staff and security when shoplifters are caught.
police we now have left have to concentrate on the motorist just in case they are breaking any law
Someone taking champagne without paying is a scumbag. Someone who takes a loaf of bread without paying has to be pitied and helped. There's a big difference to someone just helping themselves, and trying to survive.
Tougher jail sentences for ALL.
food price rises, house price rises, more homeless and jobless people and government fail in looking after homeless and jobless people. Makes sense a rise in shoplifters. Bigger worrys in the world.
/ Well there are Food Banks so shoplifting at Supermarkets is inevitable ?
Funny how you use a picture of someone stealing booze, I bet most steal food to feed there family!!!
Could they also publish the figures of which ones are the easiest to steal from? AskingForAFriend
What do they expect!!!!!
As long as halal
Five Finger Discount is a Tradition in some Countries !! ENJOY !! 👺👍✅
As they get away it, slap on the wrist are you really surprised.
Having worked in retail for 20 years. Labour corbynites wind your little necks in first. What I’ve seen is the slashing of staff numbers throughout retail creating gorgeously big opportunities to fill your bag.
Hungry people take desperate measures
I blame brexit
yep one word austerity for the poor gov should do something about it
goes both ways as many cashiers adopted a bad habit of polite stealing and all you get in return is oops sorry......funny how tricks of the trades are not on police records
Virtue signalling twitteratti: “people steal to feed themselves cz ov Tory austerity, bruv”. *Shoplifter stealing vodka and dvds* “er, yeah that’s right. What he said”
Some supermarkets have reduced their in-store security by at least 50% over the last year so not surprising really. The cost of living, I’m sure, is also a factor.
Which reminds me - I must pop up to Tesco for some smoked salmon and a packet of vol au vents 👍
Almost like austerity drives people to do desperate things. Crime sky rocketed in England and when you combine that with a police force cut to the bone by the Tories you have the perfect storm. SNP in Scotland increased their police force and have a 40 year record low in crime
you should stop just putting that shit out there. problem solved
TheBrexiteer_ Good job Sky reported we won't have any food in a managed no deal brexit, that'll stop them!
after brexet wont be anything to steal
Shoplifting is the easiest crime to commit am off to my local store to pick up my dinner for tonight.
metpoliceuk BBCNews Mainly cuz our keystone cops announced very publicly in 2017that will no longer attend calls for shoplifting. The dimwit who came up w the idea should b fired due to threat to life injury to shopkeepers.
If you know nothing is going to happen in the courts when you get caught, why not ? The impact on small business is massive. First offence, warning, second offence 6 full months, every subsequent offence is double the last offence, watch crime drop.
I manage 7 shops and my information is that the police are no longer responding to shop lifting. Thats definately the case where I am based. So no wonder its on the increase. Not the polices fault btw but budget cuts and wider variety of crime.
Can’t think why? 🤔🤔
people will rob to feed there family .. you can see by how many foodbanks we have which we should not
Hardly a surprise a lot a families dont have enough money for food.... disgusting in this day & age
What is the demographic of those being caught?
Nothing to do with open borders then 🤔
Let them eat stolen cake, the poor r starving to death let there be more food banks and if its life and death stolen food can only be the answer in a callous hostile austerity enviroment
It's government policy isn't it?. To take the pressure off food banks. 🤦♀️
All that the British police does is show figures.. when did u last respond to a burglary on a emergency basis
It's called poverty.
