The permanent Oak Bay branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library is almost ready to be reopened after a discovery of asbestos.

The permanent Oak Bay branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library is almost ready to be reopened, which means operations at the pop-up branch will be winding down.

The Oak Bay branch closed to the public in January due to a discovery of dust contaminated with asbestos.Testing at the library determined there wasn’t an exposure in the public or staff areas, and a full abatement process has now been completed. The pop-up library location will close at 5 p.m. on May 28, and the permanent branch will reopen sometime in the week of June 5-11, with an exact date to be announced later.

During the closure between May 28 and the reopening, there will be no in-person services in Oak Bay. GVPL says the nearest branches are the Central, sxʷeŋxʷəŋ təŋəxʷ James Bay, and Nellie McClung branches.Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.
