Denis Villeneuve's Dune has connections with another one of his science fiction masterpieces. Villeneuve's Arrival, like Dune, was a commercially and critically successful science fiction movie appealing to a broad range of film fans.
Dune's Spice Navigators Are Similar To Another Villeneuve Alien Villeneuve's distinct style led some fans to speculate whether his films were connected. Despite the two Villeneuve films' different timelines, Dune can easily explain this connection through time travel. Reddit user Marcus_Ulf posted a Dune theory connecting the hetapods from Arrival to the Guild Navigators in Dune.
In Arrival, the hetapods communicate to Louise Banks and her team that they need the human's help 3,000 years in the future. Since Dune takes place thousands of years in the future, it is plausible that the Guild Navigators went back in time to ask for help. However, Villeneuve's Dune shows that if the humans did help the Guild Navigators, it didn't seem to do much good for the Dune universe.
Louise's new perception of time will likely change her views of reality, as well as the future. After her daughter dies, Louise may dedicate her life completely to trying to understand the complex politics of the future of the universe. She could learn about other humanoid cultures and eventually perhaps travel further into the universe.
