'One thing I'd like to see us do – this is obviously not for me to decide, but for others to decide – I'd love to see us bring back the national song contest.'

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has suggested that he would be in favour of a “national song contest” as a way of picking a Eurovision entry.

Speaking on Virgin Media’s The Tonight Show, Mr Varadkar suggested that there should be a broader “national song contest”.“I'm a Eurovision fan. We're a great country when it comes to music and culture and the arts.
