KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Malaysia’s labour demand continues to show an upward trend with a 2.7 per cent increase in the total number of jobs in the first quarter of 2023 , thus exceeding the pre-pandemic level, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia .
“This positive trend is an indication of the country’s gradual economic recovery, supported by various government initiatives like job placement programmes, wage subsidies and tax incentives. For the record, the total number of jobs in the first quarter this year is the highest quarterly increase since 2018,” he said in a statement on the Employment Statistics, First Quarter 2023 today.
Elaborating on the jobs filled this quarter, Mohd Uzir said the manufacturing sector recorded the highest growth at 3.8 per cent , followed by mining and quarrying and agriculture . “In connection with the recovering Malaysian economy, more job creations were recorded this quarter, covering 31,700 jobs created to meet the industry’s needs.
