Turner, 40, didn’t start out as a social media connoisseur.
Matt Turner of the National Park Service is the man responsible for the agency's humorous, often viral social media posts. He landed his first job with the National Park Service in 2005, handing out brochures to arriving vehicles at Fort Pulaski National Monument in Savannah, Georgia. He later worked as a park ranger at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield, Illinois, and Harry S. Truman National Historic Site in Independence, Missouri.
Turner’s travels also provided him with the chance to dip into social media responsibilities at the various historic sites along the way, honing his craft for his eventual big break. That came in 2018, just three years after the National Park Service launched on Instagram.
